Regional Impact

UC is building housing for 13,000 students across the system by 2030 and is ready to construct 9,000 additional beds if sufficient funding is identified.

UC Student Housing Construction by the Numbers

  • Built 37,000+ beds since 2016
  • 13,000 beds under construction by 2030
  • 9,000 beds are shovel ready

UC is ready to build but needs state investment. Across the UC system, 58% of students live off campus and rely on local rentals. Every additional bed on campus means less competition in nearby neighborhoods, making housing more affordable for everyone. The University has a strong record of delivering high-quality, affordable student housing, and these projects can advance quickly with financing.
